My first monthly newsletter has just been distributed to all who subscribed on the home page of my website. 25 of those people also won a free copy of my latest audiobook 'One Less for the Road'.
If you would like a copy of the newsletter please subscribe and I will send you as copy. This month in addition to news about my own plans I include an article on the TUG, the inner feeling you get from your subconscious self and the feeling that made me realise it was time to quit. The article is based on discussions I had with neuroscientist and mind expert David Bond.

It's quite daunting receiving an envelope marked ‘Downing Street’! I am pleased to say it was just a note from the Prime Minister to thank me for the copy of my comedy memoirs ‘The 7.52 to London Bridge’ I sent her. I met Theresa May a few years ago one very drunken evening when I was mistaken for Colonel Page as opposed to Kirkman Page, and she appears in that particular story so I thought it only polite to send her a copy. I was more than relieved that the envelope didn’t contain a summons to the Tower!

As promised here is the link to the podcast I recorded last month with Lee from the needy helper. I think you will find it useful and interesting and you can ask questions of either Lee or myself by following the links on the needy helper site which is worth a view in any event.

The SLUG!

Our garden has been invaded by these creatures this weekend and it reminded me that my wife used to call me a slug when I was a drinker. I would spend most evenings lounging around achieving nothing, or slobbing out in front of the TV drunk and then falling asleep. As far as she was concerned I was good for nothing, idle, overweight, and wasting my life. What creature have you been related to by others when you are drunk?

Adrian W wins this month’s ‘I Don’t Drink’ competition for sending in this fantastic mocktail recipe he found in a local magazine. The recipe is for a VIRGIN MOJITO and having made one up it tastes every bit as good as it looks. The recipe is:

Muddle a little brown sugar with a few mint leaves to start, adding a splash of apple juice. Squeeze the juice from half a lime into the mix and fill the glass with ice (crushed preferably). Fill to the top with lemonade, an extra splash of apple juice and a couple more mint leaves. Garnish with mint leaves and lime slices.

Adrian wins a signed copy of ‘One Less for the Road’, and you can try and win a copy of the audiobook version of ‘One Less for the Road’ simply by signing up to my monthly newsletter. I have 10 copies to give away and the deadline is 10 days time! Just visit
www.idontdrink.net and add your email address.

For those of you struggling to focus on not drinking this WILL help.

My friend and hypnotherapy expert Dan Jones kindly put together a FREE self-hypnosis track to go with my book. I have now upgraded my website so you can listen to the track on this link. http://www.idontdrink.net/read-my-books.html

You don’t need to have read my book to get value from the track, you just need to sit back, relax, listen and enjoy…

Stones, not Stoned!

According to some article I read recently, Amethyst comes from the Greek word amethysos that literally means ‘not drunk’, and placing Amethyst stones in your drink is said to prevent you from becoming overwhelmed by the alcohol. The ancient Romans certainly believed an Amethyst stone would guard against drunkenness.

From a less slightly less superstitious perspective, in my book ‘I Don’t Drink’ I talk about how I also had a stone as my talisman, but instead of stopping me getting drunk, my stone acted as a constant companion and reminder as to why I had quit alcohol. I poured all the negative thoughts relating to my drinking into that one stone and wrote the word ‘gout’ on it - a word which summed up a world I didn’t want to go back to - ever. I never tried amethyst when I was a drinker, but my talisman stone certainly helped me quit the stuff. It just helped to reinforce the fact I had made such a strong and total commitment to never drink again.

I was delighted to be invited to Radio Uckfield this week to talk on this local community station about my drinking past and how I managed to quit alcohol. Lyn Buckingham asked some searching questions and you can hear the transcript at this link http://www.uckfieldfm.co.uk/2016/audio/lyn-buckingham/julian-kirkman-page/
